Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
